General Information vital to this trek:

Best Season for Kongma La Pass:

Doing this trek/climb at the right time is very important to the success of a trip of this kind. Spring (March-May) and autumn (October-November) are really the best seasons to do this trek. The monsoon season (June - early September) has less predictable weather, but some trekkers still choose this time as it aligns better with their vacation schedule. The Winter season (December - February) gets pretty cold, and snow may block the passes, but often offers clear skies. Nonetheless, we suggest our guests make bookings for this venture in the spring or autumn, especially in the autumn of September/October. The weather is at its best for this high-altitude trip. The views are crystal clear with sparkling blue skies & the finest weather you could ever imagine.

Difficulty on this odyssey

The three passes trek is rated “Challenging”. It is a very arduous adventure given its high pass crossings. This venture is more challenging than its sibling treks Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lakes, but not as much challenging as trekking peaks such as Island Peak and Mera Peak. Nevertheless, doing this trip requires real good physical fitness & previous experience of trekking above 4500m.

Accommodation & Meals

The Everest Region has admirable infrastructure for trekkers. The teahouses (lodges) are of relatively high quality and they serve good meals, especially in Namche Bazar which you’ll pass on the way up and down.

Variations

Generally, it’s best to complete the Three Passes trek counter-clockwise. It is possible to go clockwise, as well, but not recommended due to the steep altitude gain of crossing the Renjo La, first. From Gokyo, you can also add an extra day to visit the remote Gokyo Lakes farther up the glacial valley. However, whichever way you start, there’s an altitude to gain on all 3 high passes.

Will I need travel insurance?

It’s mandatory and highly recommended to get travel insurance before embarking on any adventurous trips in Nepal.

We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers emergency helicopter evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available. It is advisable to review carefully the insurance and its coverage before making the final decision. Carry proof of your insurance with you on the holiday and leave a copy next to your kin. You must ensure that your insurance provides an adequate level of protection and covers you well for the activities involved.

FAQs

  • How difficult is the Kong Ma La Pass trek?

Kong Ma La Pass Trek is also known as the EBC One Pass Trek or Everest Base Camp via Kong Ma La Trek or High Land of Everest Valley Trek. It is one of the hardest trips that Himalaya View Treks provides to its bold & brave trekkers and adventure-seekers. The journey is known to be a complete circle of high alpine country within the Everest Valley following the treacherous three passes of Renjo La, Cho La and Kongma La before Everest Base Camp visit. The taxing trip is indeed a long walk in remote land, high up in the mountains in the middle of nowhere. For this adventurous trek, you must be very fit and highly experienced in the Himalayas. We highly recommend trekkers and keen hikers to first do the Everest Base Camp Trek or Gokyo Lakes Trek before making a go for this one. Following this adventure pattern could make your issues a lot more comfortable for the 3 high passes. Once you’re done with the high passes, you can graduate for the big time peaks like ‘Island peak or Mera peak’’ & then target the 7 thousanders from there on, if you’re an ardent mountaineer. However, if you are a tested trekker or have already experienced the Kilimanjaro Climb or trekked in the Andes or on the Alps, then you are unquestionably eligible for this one.

  • When is the best time to do the Kong Ma La trek?

Kong Ma La Pass Trek is best done in pre-monsoon season i.e. from March to May and post-monsoon season i.e. from late September to December. It is also possible to do this trek in February and early September but the trek is best preferred in early autumn. September/October would be ideal & wonderful.

  • Is my trip departure guaranteed?

Absolutely yes! Under normal circumstances, our booked trips are guaranteed to run. You will still be doing your trek even if other trekkers cancel their trip. This is the reason why Himalaya View Treks is small but highly dependable; we’re somewhat different from other agencies, who usually cancel their whole trip a month or even a week before the trip date. We are a tailor-made outfit and the number of participants does not stop our operation. If your trip has been canceled by your operator and you are on a last-minute stress mode, remember to find us to sort out your trip decisions. Please feel free to book your stress-free holidays with us. Unless there is a situation which is beyond our control i.e. a political riot, natural disasters, pandemics, epidemics or weather catastrophes affecting one & all, our trips are 100% guaranteed to run.

  • If I cancel my trip, will I get a refund?

Himalaya View Treks offers a lifetime deposit policy which allows you the flexibility to transfer your deposit to anyone or any other trip. If you wish to cancel your booked trips, certain cancelation charges apply. Please visit our booking terms and conditions for detailed information.

  • Who are my guides, are they experienced enough for such a trip?

You will be guided by our experienced trek leaders who have been to the base camp and back multiple times for years. All our guides are locals who communicate very well in English and possess deep knowledge of the mountains, people, culture, health, hygiene, and most importantly, your safety. They give more priority to your life than their own. Our guides simply enjoy what they do; it’s their only means of survival.

  • Where will I sleep at nights for a high altitude trek like this?

After a long day’s hike, a relaxing night of comfortable sleep is very much vital for the next day’s walk. Taking your comfort into account, we make sure to book the best lodge with two beds in each room and western toilet facilities wherever available. Normally, the beds are clean and comfortable with an electric blanket (upon availability) and attached bathrooms for most nights. The room’s temperature is usually maintained at 10-12°C / 50-54°F. We’ve learnt a long time ago on our ceaseless trips to the mountains that a comfortable night is so important to you enjoying the next day.

  • Do I need an Insurance for Kong Ma La Pass Trek?

Yes, You need an insurance for the Kong Ma La Pass Trek. It is mandatory for any kinds of trekking activities in Nepal. It is wise to get the travel insurance which covers your medical aid, emergency rescue including the helicopter rescue and accidental injuries.

Wonderful Company for Families We just completed 13 days in Nepal, 8 of which was spent trekking to Annapurna Base Camp with our 10 and 13 year old daughters. We had a wonderful experience, from the instant communication with owner Simbir to all of my emails, to the trek itself with our guide and porters Dal Bahadur Gurung, Anil Gurung, and Manoj. The crew was fantastic, with not only helping us carry our gear but also making us comfortable once we reached our nightly tea house. Can the trip be done cheaper, apparently so if you are willing to go through the work to secure permits, carry your own gear and are prepared to be turned away at full tea houses. However, if you’re new to trekking, or like us and want to do it with children who aren’t yet ready to carry heavy packs, I highly recommend Himalaya View Treks.

They will help and assist you before-during-after the activities to make sure you’re fully aware as well as safe and sound back to your homeland. Amazing Experience! My partner and I went on the 12 day EBC tour, and our experience was amazing! We chose Himalaya View Treks because they hire local guides and porters. It was tough dealing with the altitude and the long days, but our guide Prayash and porter Ram made sure we were taken care of at all steps along the way, from taking care of our accommodation and meals to taking care of our health and comfort. They also helped us to sort our flights to and from Lukla which is a headache in the best of circumstances. We are very grateful to Himalaya View Treks for our experience!

Would 100% recommend We had a fantastic time on the 8-day Annapurna Circuit trek with Himalaya View Treks. The tour covered the most scenic and interesting parts of the circuit given the limited time we had, and the views were just unforgettable. Sofi, our guide, was very friendly and knowledgeable, and allowed us to adapt the pace (and any side treks) based on our abilities and interests. He also turned out to be a pretty good chess player. Our porter was also phenomenal: we couldn’t have made it up to Thorong La without either of them. The whole trip was very well organised and everything ran smoothly.

Wonderful Annapurna Circuit Trek! My husband and I did a shortened 7 day Annapurna Circuit starting in Kathmandu and finishing in Pokhara with Himalaya View Treks and we were very pleased with how it went. The tour was a reasonable price and everything ran like clockwork from the moment we were picked up from Kathmandu airport by our guide Suraj. Suraj sorted out all of our needs and made sure we were comfortable - he explained upcoming options for routes/accomm, he sorted our rooms (always aiming to get us ones with good views and private toilet where possible) and put our food orders in at the tea houses. Suraj was very calm and collected and we felt we were in good hands the whole way! We also loved the trek itself and the views were spectacular! We definitely recommend!

Great EBC + Gokyo Valley trek My EBC + Gokyo Valley trek in Feb-March 2024 (17 days) was amazing, thanks to Bisha, our guide. His deep knowledge of the area and mastery of the routes made the journey smooth and safe. Bisha's insights into the culture and nature of the region added a fascinating touch to the experience. He shared interesting details about the surroundings and provided historical context, making the trek even more enjoyable. When my friend needed a helicopter unexpectedly, Bisha connected his company, they swiftly arranged it, In conclusion, I highly recommend Himalaya View Treks & Bisha as a guide for the EBC + Gokyo Valley trek.

EBC trek during monsoon For a clumsy solo trekker like me, Sofiji, my guide, was perfect. A mighty, smiling, cute and hearty young fellow, who was very worried seeing me suffering from high altitude sickness and telling me, 'please don't die!' 😁😁 Trekkers usually don't choose monsoon for EBC trek but I am glad that I chose monsoon for going there. Though completing the trek in 9 days was exhausting and tiresome, I will cherish my memories of those 9 days as long as I live.

We used the services of a porter guide from the company on the Annapurna base camp trek. Rahul was truly amazing! so helpful and easy! We really appreciated his looking after us, helping pick the best accommodation and break spots along the way, making sure we are warm and positive. Would strongly recommend Rahul for those trekkers who look for a devoted and switched on porter guide.

We had a fantastic 3 passes hike thanks to the guidance, expertise and professionalism of Bishal Rai. He was a great trip partner, providing local knowledge and a sense of humor along the way. He even pointed out all the peak names to us many times due to our forgetfulness. Thank you and highly recommend Himalaya View Treks and guide, Bishal Rai.

Just returned home from a fantastic adventure holiday on the EBC trek. Himalaya View Treks couldn't of been more helpful from choosing and booking our trek before we arrived through to dropping us back to the airport once we had finished , nothing was too much trouble. Before coming to Nepal me and my dad was unsure if we needed a guide however we are now so pleased that we decided to get one. Sobit our guide made the experience so much better as he took care of all the arrangements and organising leaving us to concentrate on the trek and enjoy the scenery without any stress. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Himalaya View Treks and would request Sobit as a guide as he was brilliant!!!!
