Annapurna Basecamp Short Trek Overview

The 7-Day Annapurna Basecamp Short Trek (ABC) from Pokhara is one of the most rewarding short and best treks in Nepal,. If you’re planning your own Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek, you’ll discover it offers a close-up Himalayan experience in less than a week. Known as the “Sanctuary of the Gods,” Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130m sits in the heart of the Annapurna range. It provides a panoramic amphitheater of towering peaks. These include the mighty Annapurna I (8,091m) – the 10th highest mountain in the world.

Unlike the longer Annapurna Circuit or Ghorepani Poon Hill routes, this short ABC trek follows a direct scenic trail through Jhinu Danda, Chhomrong, Bamboo, Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp, and finally to Annapurna Base Camp itself. Moreover, it is the perfect adventure for trekkers with limited time. You may still have a strong desire to explore the breathtaking landscapes of the Annapurna region.

Trip Hightlight

  1. Trek from Pokhara – the “City of Lakes” to the base of Annapurna I.
  2. Experience two base camps in a single trek: Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3,700m) and Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m).
  3. Walk through charming Gurung villages, terraced farmlands, and lush rhododendron forests.
  4. Relax in the natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda after long trekking days.
  5. Witness dramatic Himalayan scenery including Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Gangapurna.
  6. Enjoy warm hospitality, local food, and the cultural traditions of the Gurung and Magar communities.

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek 7 Days from Pokhara

The shortest ABC trek Package from Pokhara begins with a scenic drive to Ghandruk Phedi, where the hiking journey starts. From here, the trail gradually ascends through beautiful forests and vibrant villages surrounded by rice terraces. The sound of rushing rivers, waterfalls, and birdsong makes every step a delight.

One of the most memorable experiences on this trek is the overnight stay at Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC). From here, trekkers are rewarded with stunning views of the “Holy Fishtail Peak” (6,993m). Just a few hours further lies the legendary Annapurna Base Camp,. It is surrounded by some of the highest and most dramatic peaks in the world. In the morning and evening, the mountains glow golden and silver. These times create unforgettable moments that remain etched in the heart forever. The return journey follows the same route down through Bamboo and Chhomrong,. Eventually, you will reach Jhinu Danda, where trekkers can dip into the soothing natural hot springs – a perfect way to relax after days of trekking. The trip concludes with a short drive back to Pokhara.

Best Time to Trek

The ideal seasons for this trek are autumn (September–November) and spring (March–May). During these periods, the skies are generally clear, the mountain views are at their best, and the weather is stable. Autumn is especially popular for its cool climate and vibrant mountain festivals, while spring brings blooming rhododendrons and colorful landscapes.

Everest Base Camp Trek vs Annapurna Base Camp Trek

One of the most common questions trekkers ask is whether to choose the Everest Base Camp Trek or the ABC Trek

The Everest Base Camp (EBC) Trek is ideal for those who want to stand at the base of the world’s highest mountain. The journey takes you through the famous Khumbu region, traditional Sherpa villages, ancient monasteries, and the breathtaking landscapes of Sagarmatha National Park. It is a longer trek that usually takes 12 to 14 days and reaches an altitude of 5,364 meters.

The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek offers a different but equally rewarding experience. This trek leads you into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary, surrounded by towering peaks including Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Hiunchuli, and Gangapurna. The trail passes through beautiful rhododendron forests, terraced farms, and traditional Gurung and Magar villages. It is generally shorter, easier to access, and suitable for trekkers with limited time.

If you are looking for a shorter Himalayan adventure with incredible scenery, the Annapurna Base Camp Trek is an excellent choice.

Planning the Everest Base Camp Trek requires careful preparation. Choosing an experienced local guide helps ensure a safer, more enjoyable, and more meaningful trekking experience.

Professional guides assist with route planning, altitude acclimatization, accommodation, permits, and local knowledge throughout the journey. They also share fascinating insights into Sherpa culture, Buddhist traditions, and the history of the Everest region.

For travelers seeking a once-in-a-lifetime Himalayan adventure, a guided Everest Base Camp Trek remains one of Nepal’s greatest trekking experiences.

Classic Annapurna Base Camp Trek – 10 Days

The Classic Annapurna Base Camp Trek – 10 Days is one of Nepal’s most popular trekking itineraries.

This well-balanced adventure combines comfortable walking days, excellent acclimatization, and unforgettable mountain scenery. Trekkers pass through Chhomrong, Bamboo, Deurali, Machhapuchhre Base Camp, and finally reach Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters.

Along the way, you’ll experience lush forests, waterfalls, traditional mountain villages, natural hot springs, and spectacular sunrise views over the Annapurna Himalayas.

This itinerary is perfect for travelers who want to experience the full Annapurna Sanctuary without rushing.

Mardi Himal Trek via Annapurna Base Camp – 11 Days

For trekkers seeking a longer and more adventurous journey, the Mardi Himal Trek via Annapurna Base Camp – 11 Days combines two of the Annapurna region’s most beautiful trekking routes.

The trek first leads to Annapurna Base Camp before continuing toward the peaceful Mardi Himal trail. Along the way, you’ll enjoy panoramic views of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Mardi Himal, and several other snow-capped peaks.

Compared to the classic Annapurna Base Camp Trek, this combined itinerary offers more diverse landscapes, fewer crowds on the Mardi section, and additional opportunities to experience traditional mountain villages and pristine Himalayan forests.

It is an excellent choice for trekkers who want to explore more of the Annapurna region without committing to a much longer expedition.

Trail Length

The distance between the base camp and Pokhara is around 101.1 kilometers. It is the highest distance that you cover during the trek. There are many downhill, uphill, rugged trails and glacier walking. For any average person, trekking that distance is not an easy activity. Long-distance trekking can become tiring but end result is rewarding.

Altitude Sickness

Altitude sickness is the biggest factor on this trip. The maximum height on this trip is 2170 m from sea level. Therefore, AMS's chances are very less but it can happen. However, it is not very serious altitude to get caught by altitude sickness. The trip starts from Pokhara which is at 800 m. The change in altitude is the major cause of altitude sickness. Proper acclimatization is needed. Therefore, our itinerary focuses more on the client’s safety.

Weather & Climatic Conditions

Nepal’s mountain region has unpredictable weather and climatic conditions. Day temperature is normal but night hours are pretty freezing. Weather can change drastically in just an hour. Expect unexpected changes in climate and weather. However, the team will analyze the situation and decide whether to push.

Trekking Preparation

The best way to prepare for climbing is by doing cardiovascular workouts. These kinds of cardio exercises help to increase lung capacity. In order to climb the mountain, you need strong and healthy lungs.

Do some strength-building training like planks, push-ups, and squats. Cycling is also the best option to prepare your body for climbing. Always start these activities 4-5 months before traveling to Nepal for climbing.

EBC Trek: April 2026 In April 2026, we did the 11 day Everest Base Camp trek with Himalaya View Treks. We were a group of two with Ram as our guide and Santos as porter - a pair of absolute legends! From the first email enquiry, Simbir of Himalaya View Treks was responsive and helpful and we couldn't have had a better trip. If you're going around in circles trying to decide who to book your EBC trek with (like I was), look no further. We're already thinking about our next trip and when we're back in Nepal, we wouldn't hesitate to go with the same team.

Everest base camp with island peak I completed the Everest Base Camp trek and Island Peak climb with my dad, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Everything went incredibly smoothly thanks to the excellent planning and organisation from Simbar. Our guide Sobit and porter Jhalak were outstanding both extremely welcoming, supportive and professional throughout the trip. We genuinely felt they made the whole experience what it was and without them we honestly wouldn’t have made it. I would highly recommend both the company and especially our guide and porter to anyone considering this adventure.

Annapurna Circuit Trek 2026 My wife and I went trekking on the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal from April 2–15, 2026. We used the services of Himalaya View Treks, and our guide was Jiban. During our trek, we encountered unexpected heavy snowfall, which made the journey much more challenging. However, Jiban constantly monitored the weather and assessed risks to adjust our plan, prioritizing our safety at all times. Thanks to his expertise, we successfully and safely crossed the Thorong La Pass. Throughout the trip, he took excellent care of us and provided honest, straightforward advice. If you are planning a trek in Nepal, I highly recommend consulting with the team at Himalaya View Treks. I hope you have as wonderful an experience as we did.

We had an amazing experience! We would really recommend Himalaya View Treks! We did the EBC trek. From the moment we booked, we had excellent communication with Simbir, who provided us with all the information we needed. He always replied quickly. Unfortunately, we had to postpone the trek by a few weeks due to the war in the Middle East, but this was no problem at all. The trek was rescheduled without any issues. We had Suraj as our guide for the trek and were very happy with him. During the hike, Suraj arranged everything for us and made sure we could fully focus on the trek itself. He was constantly looking after our well-being and ensured we didn’t have to worry about anything. He also knew a lot about the area and the mountains. We can’t recommend him enough and would definitely want him as our guide again if we ever return to Nepal. On top of that, he’s really good at cards and chess. And he’s also good at taking pictures!

EBC Solo Trek (26 yo female) Just finished the EBC Trek and can’t say enough good things about Himalaya View Treks and my guide, Sujan. From the moment I booked the trip, the team was extremely responsive, communicative, and professional—I felt supported every step of the way before I even arrived in Nepal. A huge shoutout to my guide, Sujan—I absolutely loved him. He made the entire experience. He handled everything on the trek seamlessly, from meals to accommodations, so I could fully focus on the journey. He was attentive, organized, and genuinely cared about making sure I was safe, comfortable, and enjoying the experience. Completing the trek in 8 days was a huge accomplishment, and I truly credit Sujan and the team for making that possible while still ensuring everything was done safely and efficiently. Overall, the company is extremely well-managed, and the entire experience exceeded my expectations. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering the Everest Base Camp trek—couldn’t have asked for a better team.

Excellent I just completed the 10-day Annapurna Base Camp trek with Anil as my guide, and I can honestly say it exceeded every expectation I had going in. From day one, Anil's professionalism set the tone for the entire trip. He was always well-prepared, punctual, and clearly prioritised our safety at every stage of the trek — whether it was pacing us correctly for acclimatisation, making smart calls on the trail, or ensuring we were well-rested before the harder days. You could tell this wasn't just a job for him; he genuinely cared about getting us to base camp and back safely. What really impressed me was how calm and composed he remained throughout. That kind of quiet confidence is exactly what you want when you're days into a mountain trek and pushing your limits. I never once felt uncertain about the route or our wellbeing. The trek itself — the rhododendron forests, the mountain villages, the jaw-dropping views of Machapuchare and the Annapurna massif — was breathtaking. But having Anil alongside made it a truly special experience rather than just a physical challenge. If you're considering the ABC trek, book with Anil without hesitation. You're in safe, capable hands.
